Thread: Byington to JMU?

  1. Default Byington to JMU?

Interviewed their on Wednesday according to their beat writer. Seems to be the top candidate right now. Byington is a native Virginian and grew up not far from JMU.

Would that not be a step down from Southern?

NO!!!!, JMU about to open a state of the art 8,500 seat Basketball Arena, go to their sight, absolutely beautiful. JMU enrollment 22,000. I would view it as a step up.

If we were talking football sure. Basketball is a different beast. The Sun Belt is on the lower end of D1 basketball conferences. JMU spends a lot more money on basketball than we do, and that brand new, huge arena will make recruiting a breeze.

+1, plus going after those DC and surrounding area players, if they offer CB it would be a no brainer. Bet he'll play in front of more than 1495 fans.

The fact that we could realistically lose a coach to a football school in a lesser basketball conference should be a wake-up call to the people that think what Byington did here was anything but good. Yes, State has a bad arena just like we do but they're not going to lose a head coach to program like UNCW or JMU.

I'd say about a lateral move. CAA is middle of the pack, just like the Sun Belt. JMU might be a better landing spot than most but it's not some massive improvement. But if he's not totally happy here it would make sense.

If he's offered, I'd certainly wager he is gone. He made a few comments towards the end about support of the program...doubt he has those at JMU.

If he leaves he will become the first GA Southern men's basketball coach to leave here on his own (not fired or retired) for another job since...
