That game was also played before the Sun Belt became a part of Championship Saturday. Unless the CCG goes away, we won't be playing December 5th football anytime soon.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure outside the national championship games in Statesboro you won't find any crowds in December anywhere close to 23k. Historically that's been the quarterfinal weekend in the FCS playoffs (before play-in games existed). Crowds have never been good in December.

That was also the first time the panthers made the trip to Statesboro.

That's correct. And that win got them to bowl eligibility. I want to say they brought one or two fan buses for that.

I know we had some Atlanta alumni do a bus or two for that game as well.

I'd be curious what that number is with our current attendance counting. Surely less.

I don't think we have changed the way we count or report our attendance.

    Probably not.

Weather was horrid for most of our home games this year.

Plus, 2015 is a poor comparison against other seasons. We almost knocked off UGA. That got us a LOT of attention.

This was shared in the fan group:
"we report tickets sold. So we take sold season ticket number + sold single game ticket number + students scanned in + comp tickets scanned in.

So season ticket number this season was 6,118. We only averaged 2,000 to 2,500 single game tickets sold this season outside of UL game which we sold a little over 5,000.

So a BIG part of the attendance is pushed by students if a lot of tickets are not sold. For those 3 rain games, less than 1,000 students showed up.

So an example of a breakdown would be:
    6,118 - season sold
    2,500 - single game sold
    1,500 - comps scanned
    235 - Southern Pride
    1,500 - Students scanned
11,853 - TOTAL NCAA REPORTED NUMBER

We look at that at halftime and then some times we inflate it 1-2k, so we will announce 13,673 or something...

The scan number of actual tickets scanned in at the gates could have only been 10,000 and we still announce that higher number. So tickets sold are counted in the attendance whether they show up or not.

What GA State does is gives out a TON of FREE tickets and just counts tickets distributed. None of them ever show up. But what they have to report to NCAA is going to be a TON less than what they announced.

    Hope that helps! GATA!"

One other thing to remember from the playoffs, student tickets were counted differently since they did end up having to pay for those. they were discounted to a third of the regular price though, so every three students only counted as one in attendance.
I know the overall crowds were much smaller, but that may impact the reported number a bit
